John Deere, a leading tractor manufacturer, has shifted a manufacturing unit during the Covid-19 pandemic, to build the 5M lineup of the brand’s high HP and power-packed tractor models in India. This business move was strategically executed to support the quof ality manufacturing and supply base in India.
The John Deere India had recently exported top-notch, advanced-featured tractor models from the Indian manufacturing unit to the US, Japan, Germany & other parts of Europe.
Mr Shailendra Jagtap, the Managing director and country manager of India, John Deere, quoted — ”the company exported tractors made in India to almost 110 countries. The 5M was our latest series that was exported from India. These series tractors are manufactured in the hp range between 75-130. This series was manufactured exclusively for the export markets. At present, the company exports around 35% of its total production.”
In addition, Mr Jagtap marked — “The company is not just exporting tractors, it’s also exporting electronic systems & other components from India. Almost 80 Indian suppliers of John Deere India are putting up the work to be a part of advanced products being developed by Deere globally”.
The popular OEM of tractors, John Deere India is also innovating products and further providing IT & engineering support to worldwide operations. However, all of this is smoothly functioned by a strong team of 4,400 members located across Pune and Bengaluru.
Mukul Varshney, region 1 director (corporate affairs), John Deere, stated the brand would keep on investing to leverage manufacturing, talent and India’s supply chain to fulfil the needs of farmers in India and around the globe, with growth estimated in both the export and domestic markets.
The Deere India is a subsidiary of the John Deere Singapore (an arm of Deere & Co). This plant has remarkably completed its 25 years of operations in India. The headquarters of Deere India are based out of Pune, with a unit at Sanaswadi near Pune. And this plant of Pune has the ability to manufacture 72,000 tractors.
Furthermore, they have another plant in Dewas of Madhya Pradesh, with a manufacturing capacity of 60,000 tractors of the 5000 Series of tractors in India. This leading brand has a 10% share in the Indian tractor market with an impressive 7,00,000 customer base in India. Also, the brand holds a reputed position in India's 45 HP and higher HP category of tractors.
Tractor sales of John Deere India in FY23 are estimated to be 900,000 tractors and almost the same for FY24 also. However, the Managing Director & Country Manager of John Deere, marked that this number would vary according to the monsoon.
Recently, John Deere began a road construction company in India (a part of the global acquisition of the Wirtgen Group), and this company’s factory is situated in Pune.
