Farmtrac Tractors: History

Founded in 1996, Farmtrac is a global agricultural machinery brand manufactured by the Indian conglomerate Escorts Group (now Escorts Kubota Limited) and introduced after the company lost its Ford/New Holland license. Then, Farmtrac expanded globally, building a reputation for durable, fuel-efficient tractors that prioritise simple mechanics over excessive electronics.

1940s: Escorts Limited is established in India by brothers Har Prasad Nanda and Yudhishthir Nanda. It later became the parent company for Farmtrac.

1970s - 1990s: Escorts successfully manufactures Ford tractors under license. When this licensing agreement ends, Escorts begins designing its own tractors to meet the needs of Indian farmers. 

1996: The Farmtrac brand was officially launched in Faridabad, Haryana. The legendary Farmtrac 60 model was released, quickly making a name for itself in the mid-size farm sector.

Late 1990s–2000s: Farmtrac expands into the North American market, initially selling tractors through its acquisition of Long Agri and setting up an assembly plant in Tarboro, North Carolina.

2000s: Farmtrac expands globally, opening Farmtrac Tractors Europe in Mrągowo, Poland, to manufacture tractors for European, Australian, and South American markets. 

2020–2022: Japanese tractor giant Kubota acquires a major stake in Escorts. The company is officially renamed Escorts Kubota Limited, merging traditional Farmtrac engineering with Kubota’s advanced technologies.
