The Madras High Court maintained the status quo and permitted TAFE to trade with the "Massey Ferguson" brand. The judgment published on 18 November 2024 reflects well over 60 years enjoyed by TAFE under the trademark.
The judgment went on to conclude that questions about ownership and beyond would be decided by a single judge since the case is still up for appeal. This order continued the status quo that was initially granted in April 2024. It is yet another case where TAFE is permitted to continue using the Massey Ferguson brand name. Following this ruling, TAFE will retain the right to use the brand name until all legal disputes are resolved.
Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited, a company based in Chennai and A P, was founded in 1960. The firm is the third-largest manufacturer of tractors in the world and the second-largest by volume in India. TAFE produces more than 180,000 tractors every year and is famous for quality products sold at reasonable prices.
TAFE possesses an excellent dealership network of over 1,600 dealers and retails four iconic brands of tractors – Massey Ferguson, TAFE, Eicher Tractors, and IMT. TAFE exports its tractors to over 80 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Russia. The wholly owned subsidiary TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited (TMTL) acquired the business of tractors, engines, and transmission of the Eicher group with German origins in 2005. TAFE furthered its farm machinery manufacturing front besides tractors, diesel engines, gen-sets, engineering plastics, hydraulic components, and vehicle franchises.
