The CSIR and CMERI have introduced an electric tiller aimed at helping small and marginal farmers achieve sustainable and efficient farming. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Science & Technology on Sunday.
The Electric Tiller provides enhanced torque and field efficiency, emphasizing user comfort and environmental sustainability. Unlike traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) tillers, it operates quietly, emits no exhaust gases, and significantly reduces hand-arm vibration.
On Saturday in Durgapur, N. Kalaiselvi, CSIR Director General and Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), unveiled CSIR-CMERI's innovative technology. The electric tiller has the potential to assist small to marginal farmers. These farmers typically have land holdings of less than 2 hectares and makeup over 80% of India's farming community. It could significantly lower their operational costs.
Additionally, it will help the country reduce net-zero emissions and promote environmentally friendly farming practices. The ministry highlighted that the electric tiller has the potential to reduce operational costs by up to 85%. Its user-friendly design facilitates battery pack swapping and provides multiple charging options, including AC and Solar DC charging.
Furthermore, the tiller effortlessly incorporates a variety of common agricultural attachments such as ridges, ploughs, iron wheels, and cultivators. It comes equipped with a 2-inch water pump and a trolley attachment capable of carrying up to 500 kg, which enhances its versatility. With electronic controls and ergonomic handling, operators can maneuver through fields with ease, reducing fatigue and boosting productivity.
