Rajasthan–UP Budget 2026: Big Push for Agriculture and Rural Welfare

The governments of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have presented their State Budgets for 2026 with a strong focus on farmers and rural areas. Both states have prioritised agriculture, announcing financial support, better irrigation, reliable electricity, and welfare schemes aimed at improving farm income and rural living conditions.

Early budget announcements indicate that the governments want to reduce farming risks, improve water availability, and support small and marginal farmers. While detailed budget provisions are still being rolled out, the key highlights show continued investment in agriculture, rural housing, and market access for farm produce.

Rajasthan Budget 2026: Key Highlights for Farmers

The Rajasthan government announced ₹10,900 crore in financial support for agriculture and rural welfare schemes.

  • The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat has been increased, providing direct relief to wheat farmers.
  • About 6,500 additional villages will be linked to water supply schemes to improve access to clean water for farming and household use.
  • Under PM Awas Yojana (Gramin), surveys of 28 lakh families are complete, and eligible households will receive housing benefits in instalments.
  • Nearly 2 lakh farmers will get new agricultural electricity connections to support irrigation and farming operations.
  • Major investments have also been planned in irrigation and water management projects to strengthen farming in rural areas.

Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026: Key Highlights for Farmers

  • The Uttar Pradesh government will continue to provide free electricity for irrigation through tube wells.
  • ₹18,000 crore has been allocated for irrigation projects to improve water availability for farming.
  • Under Namami Gange and rural water supply programmes, ₹22,676 crore has been earmarked for rural infrastructure and water facilities.
  • The government plans to develop agri-export hubs to help farmers sell produce in national and international markets.
  • Support under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana will continue, protecting farmers from crop losses due to natural disasters.
  • The sugarcane price has been increased by ₹30 per quintal, which is expected to give farmers around ₹3,000 crore in additional income.

What This Means for Farmers in 2026

The 2026 budgets of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh signal stronger government backing for agriculture. Higher crop prices, better irrigation, reliable electricity, housing support, and crop insurance are likely to improve farm security and incomes. Investments in water infrastructure and agri-exports could also create new opportunities for farmers in the coming years.
