Trakstar tractors are one of the three brands the Mahindra and Mahindra group own. Trakstar tractor brand is one of the oldest tractor brands in India. The history dates back to 1912 when Pashabhai Patel imported tractors to India. Later, with the independence of India and the post-world war economy, there was a huge demand for tractors and farm implements. With this opportunity, M/s Pashabhai Patel & Cod manufactured tractors in India with Trakstar tractors in 1964. The company was named Tractors & Bulldozer Pvt Ltd in 1969. Since its founding, the company has been renamed and changed ownership several times. In the year 1978, the company was handed over to the Government of Gujarat with a view to growing its production. But, in the year 1999, the government sold a majority stake of 60% to Mahindra and Mahindra groups. Currently, the Mahindra and Mahindra group with the Government of Gujarat own a 60% and 40% stake, respectively. The company was registered as Mahindra Gujarat Tractor Limited (MGTL). Recently in 2017, Mahindra renamed the company Gromax Agri Equipment Limited. Gromax is responsible for manufacturing tractors in its state of the art 55 acres manufacturing plant in Vadodara, Gujarat. Gromax sells tractors under the name Trakstar and Farm Equipment under the brand name Tracmate. The company is now headquartered in Vadodara.
