Mahindra Tractors has completed three years of its OJA platform in the Indian market, highlighting the growing adoption of compact and lightweight 4WD tractors for specialised farming applications. The company says the OJA range now covers multiple products in the 21–30 HP category, an emerging tractor segment aimed at high-value agriculture.
The range is designed for applications including horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and row-crop cultivation, where compact size, manoeuvrability and precise operation can play an important role.
Mahindra introduced the OJA platform in 2023 as a global lightweight 4WD tractor platform. At the time of its launch, the company said the broader OJA architecture could support more than 40 tractor models across farming and non-farming applications.
Mahindra has developed the OJA platform around the requirements of specialised and high-value agriculture. The tractors combine compact dimensions, precision handling, superior manoeuvrability and a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio to support operations in different farming conditions.
The range is particularly suited to applications where farmers need to work in limited spaces, such as vineyards, orchards and row-crop fields. A narrow-track configuration further allows the tractors to operate efficiently in constrained areas.
The OJA range comes with 4WD as standard, helping provide traction and stability across different terrains. The tractors are also compatible with a wide range of farm implements, supporting multiple agricultural operations.
The 21–30 HP OJA platform includes four models: OJA 2121, OJA 2124, OJA 2127 and OJA 2130.
The OJA range is powered by a three-cylinder engine designed to provide strong performance, fuel efficiency and constant operation across different applications.
The 21–30 HP platform uses a 1331 cc three-cylinder diesel engine, with the four models covering a power range of 21 HP to 30 HP. The maximum torque across these models ranges from 76 Nm to 86 Nm.
Mahindra also highlights the platform's focus on operating economics, stating that the OJA range delivers lower operational expenses per crop cycle and reduced maintenance requirements over the life of the tractor.
The Mahindra OJA range gets several productivity-focused technologies through the PROJA tech pack. These features include:
These features are designed to improve precision, implement operation and ease of use during specialised farming activities.
Mahindra has also incorporated telematics and automation into the OJA platform through separate technology packages.
The MYOJA tech pack integrates telematics into the OJA tractor range, while the optional ROBOJA tech pack includes automation features such as:
Together, these technologies bring connected and automated functions to the compact 4WD tractor category.
Mahindra has placed emphasis on operator comfort alongside tractor performance and technology. The OJA range features tilt and telescopic steering, which the company describes as an industry-first.
The tractors also get side-shift controls and ergonomic layouts, which are designed to make controls easier to operate and help reduce fatigue during long working hours.
The OJA platform is available in multiple models across the 21–30 HP category, giving farmers options based on their specific application and power requirements.
Parikshit Ghosh, Head – Sr. Vice President & Head – Marketing & National Business Operations, Mahindra Tractors, said:
"The OJA has established itself as a preferred choice among farmers engaged in horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and other specialised farming applications, and is offered today in multiple models with options available at every 3 to 4 HP points. With OJA, we remain focused on delivering application-specific solutions that help farmers operate more efficiently and profitably."
The OJA platform has been jointly developed by engineering teams at Mahindra Research Valley, India, and Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery, Japan.
The platform has been developed for both Indian and global markets and supports over 40 tractor models across farming and non-farming applications.
Mahindra originally introduced OJA as a global lightweight 4WD tractor platform covering four categories across the 20–70 HP range: Sub-Compact, Compact, Small Utility and Large Utility. The Compact platform covers the 21–30 HP category.
Mahindra is offering an industry-best six-year warranty across the OJA range.
The warranty complements the platform's focus on durability, reliability, lower maintenance requirements and operating efficiency, giving customers additional long-term coverage.
Harsh Rai, CEO, Mahindra Tractors, said:
"At Mahindra, we believe the future of farming lies in specialised, technology-led solutions that help farmers improve productivity and profitability. As India's rapidly growing horticulture and specialised farming segments continue to evolve, the need for purpose-built mechanisation is becoming increasingly important. Over the last three years, the OJA platform has embodied this vision, bringing together world-class engineering, innovation and customer insight to address the evolving needs of modern agriculture and specialised farming. As India's leading tractor brand, we remain focused on delivering globally benchmarked, future-ready products like the OJA that empowers farmers to achieve more from every acre."
The statement reflects Mahindra's focus on application-specific mechanisation as specialised and high-value farming continues to evolve in India.
Although the OJA platform has gained traction in India's compact tractor segment, it was developed with a global focus. Mahindra has positioned OJA as a future-ready lightweight 4WD tractor platform for markets including India, North America, Japan, ASEAN, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Europe and the SAARC region.
Its global architecture allows Mahindra to use the platform across multiple tractor models and applications while addressing different farming and non-farming requirements.
With three years of OJA in the Indian market, Mahindra is expanding its focus on the 21–30 HP compact 4WD tractor category. The platform combines 4WD as standard, compact and narrow-track configurations, advanced electronic features, telematics and optional automation.
By bringing these features into a lightweight tractor platform, Mahindra is targeting farmers involved in specialised applications where manoeuvrability, precision, implement compatibility and operating efficiency are important considerations.
