The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major relief for farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). A total of ₹122.28 crore will be transferred to farmers who suffered crop losses due to bad weather during the Kharif 2025 and Rabi 2025-26 seasons. The payment will be sent directly to farmers’ bank accounts on 4 May 2026 through a state-wide distribution programme.
This compensation is part of the government’s effort to support farmers and protect their income from natural disasters like heavy rain, drought, floods, and storms. The scheme is active in all districts of Uttar Pradesh and helps farmers get financial support quickly through direct bank transfer.
The government had already fixed compensation for crop losses in different seasons. For the Kharif 2025 season, the total approved amount was ₹730.04 crore. Out of this, ₹624.88 crore has already been paid to farmers. The remaining ₹105.16 crore will now be released on 4 May.
For the Rabi 2025-26 season, ₹17.11 crore is still pending. This amount will also be added to the current payment. In total, ₹122.28 crore will be transferred to eligible farmers in one go.
Under PMFBY, farmers get insurance coverage for major crops. In the Kharif season, crops like rice, maize, soybean, pulses, and oilseeds are covered. In the Rabi season, crops such as wheat, gram, mustard, peas, and potatoes are included.
Farmers only pay a small part of the insurance cost. They pay 2% premium for Kharif crops and 1.5% for Rabi crops. The remaining amount is shared by the central and state governments, making the scheme affordable and helpful for farmers.
Earlier, the state government had also released ₹285 crore to over 2.5 lakh farmers in February 2026 using a single-click transfer system. This shows the government’s focus on fast and transparent payments.
Since 2017-18, more than 67 lakh farmers in Uttar Pradesh have received over ₹5,755 crore under this scheme. The PM Fasal Bima Yojana continues to act as a safety shield for farmers facing crop losses due to unpredictable weather conditions.
