Google has announced the launch of new projects using AI to assist in agriculture, sustainability, and healthcare. These initiatives aim to leverage advanced AI to solve critical challenges in India, such as improving farming efficiency, managing urban waste, and addressing diabetic eye diseases. The partnerships range from local organizations to global efforts.

This announcement celebrates five years of Google’s Research Lab in India. It follows the tenth Google for India event, where the company showcased how AI can positively impact individuals, businesses, and society.

Assisting Agriculture

Google created the Agricultural Landscape Understanding (ALU) Research API, which is a tool to help farmers. It utilizes artificial intelligence with precise satellite imagery and gives fairly accurate information about farms all around India. It can find out the perimeter of fields, water bodies, and crop locations, which farmers use to make better use of their available resources when planning crops by wisely managing their farms. The API makes it easier for farmers, leading to increased productivity and sustainable practices.

Encourage Sustainability

This should help Google's AI sort plastic waste in India much better, reducing recyclable waste from entering landfills. The system uses Google's TensorFlow machine learning platform to examine images closely to identify different materials, accelerating the recycling process. It later checks the quality and quantity of waste before and after recycling, helping the circular economy.

Improving Healthcare Google is teaming up with Saahas Zero Waste, Forus Health and Auro Lab to harness AI to upgrade healthcare. The company will allow the use of its diabetic retinopathy AI model to perform 6 million free eye exams among diabetic patients in poor areas of India and Thailand over the next ten years. The program is aimed at preventing blindness through early problems detected in patients. Google's AI programs will be a great difference in the areas of agriculture, the environment, and healthcare for India's masses.
