The Haryana government has launched a subsidy scheme to promote electric tractors among farmers in the state. Under this scheme, farmers can get up to ₹5 lakh subsidy on the purchase of a 45 HP electric tractor. The initiative aims to support smart farming and reduce dependence on diesel-powered agricultural machines.
Currently, the market price of the e-tractor is around ₹15 lakh. After government subsidy and additional benefits, the effective cost for farmers may come down to nearly ₹8 lakh.
The government stated that electric tractors can help reduce pollution and lower farming expenses. Since these tractors run on electricity instead of diesel, farmers may save money on fuel while also supporting environment-friendly farming practices.
The scheme also highlights that rotavator and ploughing work can be performed easily using the electric tractor. Lower diesel usage and reduced maintenance costs are expected to benefit farmers in long-term agricultural operations.
Electric tractors are slowly gaining popularity because of rising diesel prices and increasing awareness about sustainable farming solutions. Many companies are now focusing on battery-powered farm vehicles designed for Indian agricultural conditions. With subsidy schemes like this, Haryana is encouraging farmers to adopt modern technology while reducing operational farming costs.
