India Creates 11 Crore Farmer IDs Five Months Ahead of Time

New Delhi: India has achieved its target of creating 11 crore Farmer IDs nationwide, five months ahead of the March 2027 deadline. Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the milestone as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen digital services for farmers.

The initiative comes under the Centre’s Digital Agriculture Mission, which aims to provide farmers with a unique digital identity and simplify access to agricultural services and government schemes.

Farmer IDs to Help Farmers Access Loans and Schemes

The Farmer ID system is expected to make it easier for farmers to access agricultural loans, crop insurance, disaster relief and other government benefits. It can also reduce paperwork, simplify verification and help prevent duplication in farmer records.

Digital Agriculture Mission Expands

Approved by the Union Cabinet in September 2024, the Digital Agriculture Mission aims to build digital infrastructure for the agriculture sector. The initiative connects farmer records with relevant services and welfare programmes to improve the delivery of benefits.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, more than 6 crore farmers have already received direct benefits under various schemes through the Farmer ID-based system.

Centre and States Support Farmer Registration

The target has been achieved through the combined efforts of the Central Government, state governments, Union Territories and local administrations. Officials and field staff have contributed to farmer registration across the country.

Reaching the 11-crore milestone ahead of schedule marks progress in the digitisation of agricultural services. Wider coverage and accurate farmer records will remain important to ensure eligible farmers can benefit from the system.
