Mahindra & Mahindra Limited is an Indian automotive manufacturing corporation, headquartered in Mumbai. The group started as a steel trading company in 1945 under the name Muhammad & Mahindra by brothers Harikrishnan and Jayakrishnan, Jagdish Chand Mahindra and Malik Ghulam Muhammad. It was renamed as Mahindra & Mahindra in 1948. It is known for being one of India’s largest vehicle manufacturers in terms of production. In the 2009 survey of Asia’s 200 most admired and innovative companies, the Wall Street Journal named Mahindra & Mahindra one of the ten most innovative Indian companies.

In 1999, Mahindra & Mahindra purchased 100% of Gujarat tractors from the Government of Gujarat and renamed it as Gromax Agri Equipment Limited in 2017 as a part of a new brand strategy. These models are sold under the brand name Trakstar.

In 2007, Mahindra & Mahindra acquired Punjab Tractor Limited (PTL), making it the world’s largest tractor manufacturer. Subsequently, PTL was merged into Mahindra & Mahindra and transformed as the Swaraj division in 2009.
