Pearl Farming Business - Process & benefits

Pearl farming is the cultivation of pearls. A small bead is placed in the mollusk, which activates its natural defence mechanism. The mollusk then covers the nucleus with nacre, creating a beautiful pearl.
Always choose areas with clean, unpolluted water and the right salinity and temperature levels for your chosen oyster species. Factors like water depth and access to food sources also play an important role.
You can collect young oysters from the wild or purchase them from hatcheries specializing in pearl oyster cultivation. Always choose healthy oysters for good pearl growth.
The prepared nucleus, along with a small piece of mantle tissue from another oyster, is carefully inserted into the cavity created by the drill. This process is known as grafting.
After grafting, the oysters require a period of nurturing in submerged cages, where they are regularly monitored. This development stage is of 12 to 18 months, depending on the desired pearl size and quality.
After months of care, pearl oysters are harvested. The pearls are cleaned, graded by size, color, and flaws, then sold to jewellers, wholesalers, or online market vendors accordingly.
