Nagpur Santra, Mudkhed, Khasi Santra, Dancy orange and Coorg Santra are the popular types of orange variety in India. However, each variety of orange gives a profitable income.
For the best quality of oranges, it is suggested to use loamy, deep soil which has proper drainage. Also, the ideal pH range is 6.5 to 7.5 for higher production.
Orange farming requires equally hot and cold conditions for fruit development. Along with this, a 50 to 75 cm rainfall is needed from the month of June to September.
In orange cultivation, the land is prepared well by multiple ploughing and levelling. Apart from this, it is essential to make the field free from unwanted plants.
Regular pruning and training are needed for orange farming. However, the plants should be kept protected from diseases and pests by providing suitable chemicals.
The harvesting process in orange cultivation is carried out around 10 months after sowing. After stabilisation, the average yield is 700 to 800 oranges from one tree.
