GYAN: A Key Pillar of the Budget

A standout feature of this year’s budget is the ‘GYAN’ initiative, which is designed to focus on key areas of growth:

  • G for Garib (Poor)
  • Y for Yuva (Youth)
  • A for Annadata (Farmers)
  • N for Nari Shakti (Women Empowerment)

The government’s drive is to build on the tremendous progress made over the last decade, while promoting inclusive growth for all sections of society.

Agriculture Gets a Boost

Key announcements in the agriculture sector include:

  • A six-year plan will focus on boosting the production of pulses like Tuar, Urad, and Masoor, ensuring India becomes self-reliant in pulse production.
  • A new five-year mission will aim to improve cotton production, contribute to the textile industry, and raise farmer incomes.
  • The loan limit under the Kisan Credit Card scheme will be increased from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, ensuring that farmers have better access to financial support.
  • A dedicated Makhana Board will be created in Bihar to assist small farmers and traders in the region’s Makhana production.
  • To support the growth of small industries, the government will introduce a special credit card scheme with 10 lakh cards to be issued in the first year.

Advancing Agricultural Productivity

  • National High Yield Seed Mission: Over 100 high-yield seed varieties will be introduced under this mission to boost agricultural productivity.
  • Support for Fishing: India’s ₹60,000 crore fishing industry will see further government support, particularly in the deep-sea fishing sector in Andaman & Nicobar.
  • 100 Agricultural Districts: Under the PM Dhandhanya Krishi Yojana, the government will focus on developing 100 agricultural districts to promote sustainable farming practices, crop diversification, irrigation systems, and post-harvest storage. The initiative will directly benefit 1.7 crore farmers.

Conclusion: A Forward-Looking Budget

The Union Budget 2025 marks a significant step in strengthening India’s agricultural and rural economy. With increased financial support for farmers, emphasis on sustainable farming, and new initiatives to promote economic self-sufficiency, the government is committed to boosting agricultural productivity and rural development.

As India continues its journey to economic growth, these initiatives will play a pivotal role in ensuring a prosperous future for millions of farmers and small businesses across the nation.
